Happy Thanksgiving to readers in the U.S., where I too will be giving thanks for all of God’s many blessings.  I wanted to share a few of them with you.

I am thankful for all the progress in the canonization process of Archbishop Romero.  As Pope Francis said, he was overlooked and disrespected in the church, and his followers had gotten used to being dismissed as a quixotic bunch.  Now, Romero is a symbol of hope and we can aspire to see his enrollment in the ranks of the saints in the near future.
I am thankful for the opportunity to have attended the beatification ceremony in San Salvador in May.  It was a moment of national catharsis, and also a moment of future promise at a time of crisis in El Salvador.  I am grateful for having been able to witness that historic hour.
I am thankful for my job, which gives me the luxury of pursuing this “intense hobby” (in the words of Rhina Guidos).  I fully appreciate that not everyone has the luxury of pursuing intellectual pursuits that require not only time, but—I hate to say it—means, connections, it helps to have education, research skills and tools, and similar advantages.
I am thankful for the friends I have made while blogging, as well as on the Facebook page, Twitter account, Google Plus profile and blog partnership that assist this blog.  I won’t embarrass them by mentioning them by name, but they are angels of Romero, El Salvador, and the poor and I cherish our daily interactions.
Last but not least, I am thankful for you reading this blog.  I am always surprised and invariably happy to hear second hand that someone reads the blog.  I am humbled by the trust and confidence you extend to what is stated here, and I will always do my best to live up to the responsibility.  I take it very seriously.

God bless you, and have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
