On April 16,
2014, I gave a talk for the St. Thomas More Society of Orange County (“STMS”)
entitled “Archbishop Oscar Romero — The First of the New Martyrs.” The STMS is a Catholic lawyers’ group in
Orange County, California, traditionally a bastion of conservatism (though
recent demographics have shown a shift in this tendency).
The lunchtime
talk was attended by judges and lawyers, who listened eagerly and then asked
pointed and insightful questions.
Here is the audio of the presentation, including the Q and A session that
followed. Thanks to St. Joseph’s Radio
for the recording.
I began my
presentation with a short slideshow of St. John Paul II’s 1983 visit to
Romero’s grave. Here are the pictures
that I showed the group. (You can follow along with the audio at the beginning of the talk.)
I publish the
materials here in the hope that it will be a useful introduction to Blessed
Romero and to present this blog’s thesis for the beatification of Oscar Romero,
Bishop and Martyr.
